The tradition of official portraiture is vast, rich and impossible to ignore. So when I approach an official portrait, I try to assimilate the lesson of the master portraitists from the past and adapt it to my own aesthetics, aspiring to create something that fits within this storied tradition and yet is unmistakably different, at once soothingly classical and refreshingly modern.
